Concept checks
The coach asks questions to find what you really know.
Four depth levels
| Level | You can… |
|---|---|
| 1 aware | Say what it is |
| 2 explain | Explain it without notes |
| 3 apply | Use it, build with it, or fix it |
| 4 teach | Handle edge cases and trade-offs |
Your level is the highest level that you did without help. To read, to watch, or to say "that makes sense" is not proof.
How a check works
- You and the coach agree on a target level.
- The coach asks 3–5 questions, one at a time.
- The coach gives no hints.
- Before it shows the answer, it asks: "sure or unsure?"
- It grades your answer.
- It stops when you reach the target, or when you miss two questions in a row.
Grades
| Sure | Unsure | |
|---|---|---|
| Correct | solid | fragile |
| Wrong | misconception | gap |
A partly correct answer counts as wrong. A skipped question counts as a gap.
The final grade is the worst grade at the target level.
Review schedule
A script sets the date of the next review. It uses these steps (in days):
1 → 3 → 7 → 16 → 35
- solid: move up one step.
- fragile: stay on the same step.
- misconception or gap: go back to step 1.
After the last step, the concept is "consolidated".
Due reviews
The dashboard shows concepts that are due. The coach offers them as a warm-up before your first block. It asks 1–2 questions for each concept. It does a maximum of 5 concepts.
Errors that occur again
The coach records errors in concepts/_misses.md. If you make the same error again, it adds one to the count. There are two types:
- confusion: you mix up A and B. The coach asks "A or B?" questions.
- trap: you make the same wrong step. The coach makes a new case with the same trap.
Are you ready?
Before a test or interview, the coach puts concepts in three groups:
- Reliable: solid at the target, checked recently.
- Fragile: fragile, or solid only one time.
- Untested: never checked. This does not mean "probably good".
